About Darren Lambert

Darren Lambert in NYCI am a very experienced website programmer and developer.  I love making beautiful, easy to use, interactive websites.

I have a big interest in content management systems, especially in making website editing  easier, and also in allowing the community of a website to interact more easily.

Background

I have extensive experience in making websites.  I am also a master of software design and development, implementation and project management.  I am an expert programmer in many languages and can learn new systems very quickly.  I love web technologies, particular content management systems.

I have a good understanding of internet marketing.  I help businesses use their website to the fullest.  I get more visitors to my clients websites using search engines and social media.

I have extensive experience of managing small projects, large projects and teams of people.  I have worked for dozens of small local businesses, for one of the UK’s biggest software houses, and on projects for the NHS, TNT, Unilever and Mitsui Sumitomo, one of the worlds largest insurance companies.

Skills

Internet

I have been making websites for 11 years.  I have a particular passion for content managements systems, especially allowing staff and editors to publish their own information, and allowing user interaction on community websites.

I am a big fan of Wordpress and Drupal.  I also have experience of ExpressionEngine and Magento.

I have 11 years of experience of HTML, CSS, Javascript, PHP, MySql and Apache.  I run my own LAMP VPS web server delivering over 80 websites.  I have also run Windows web servers.

I can take a Photoshop design, HTML file, or even a drawing and make a modern website that gives the client great online exposure.

Whilst I am not a graphic designer, I can develop simple and effective website designs.  I can extend and adapt existing website designs when websites grow with new features.

I have 5 years of experience developing web applications with Microsoft's .Net platform.

Internet Marketing

I have Search Engine Optimisation experience, taking many websites to the first page of Google searches for their chosen key phrases.

I run several revenue generating websites.  I sell advertising space and earn commission through promoting other companies products.

I help businesses develop a following with social media.

Technical

I have extensive database experience.  I've designed small, medium and enterprise level databases using MySql, SQLServer, Oracle and others.  I am an expert at increasing database performance.

I run web servers, making websites perform quickly and reliably.

I'm able to make almost any broken or neglected website or software system work again.

Business Skills

I firmly believe that businesses should not just have a website for the sake of it.  Businesses should have a website that plays an important role for them.  The website should tell customers of a business's products, allow the products to be bought easily, allow customers to download or order catalogues, or perform the vital tasks in a business's sales cycle.  Call to Action is vital.

I managed this project, delivering everything, except the graphic design.  I created a bright website that showed this companies products at their best.  The new website has seen a massive rise in orders and turnover for the business.

The website is built using Wordpress.  Modifications have been made to allow the companies staff to update the website easily and regularly, with new buildings and projects.

Camper Van LifeCamperVanLife

www.campervanlife.com - a very popular campervan community website

I designed, built and run CamperVanLife.  I wrote almost all of the content, and have taken almost all of the photographs.  After travelling for 9 months in my campervan across Europe, I made a website of my experiences and information. The website grew and has become very popular and profitable.

The website is built using Drupal.  It has been well optimised to delivery thousands of hits everyday from a simple VPS hosting package.  The website is very member interactive.  I encourage members to blog, upload photos, comment and participate in the forum.

I did all of the technical work on this project.  I took the Photoshop files from the designer and created the entire website.  This involved designing a complex structure in ExpressionEngine.   Custom modules and plugins were created to allow easy visitor interaction, and easy moderation of the website for the administrators.

Future modifications were made over time, including performance optimisation.

Hatton TextilesHatton Textiles

www.hattontextiles.co.uk - a leading supplier of custom towels and fabrics

I delivered the complete project.  From graphic design to programming.  Please note: the client chose to retain their old logo.

Spirit of BarakaSpirit of Baraka

www.spiritofbaraka.com - community website celebrating non-verbal films

Baraka is a non-verbal film.  A film that changed how I look at film and the world.

In 2001 I made a website to celebrate Baraka, and other non-verbal films.

SpiritOfBaraka.com has served as a focal point for these non-verbal films.

In 2011 I attended the word premiere of Samsara, the follow-up to Baraka,  in Toronto, at the request of the film makers.

This website is powered by Drupal, and allows community interaction.

Interests

I love technology.  I love Apple computers and iPhones, and think Linux is an unsung hero of the internet.

I love to travel, particularly to Europe in my campervan, and to Asia with my backpack.

I love Formula 1 motor racing, surfing (waves not the internet) and music.
