Squidoo is a fantastic social network.  It allows you to write lenses, which are clever articles with lots of modules that you can add to it.  The modules allow you to include all sorts of content easily, such as guestbooks, lists, Amazon products, eBay items and more. The system is really easy to use and looks pretty, which is what gives it the edge over so many other systems, especially article directories. 

I have used Squdioo to promote several of my websites, as a backlink can be included in your article, as well as affiliate links.  Some people say that Squidoo is spammy, which it can be, and Google have reduced the sites position in some SERPs.  But it continues to be a great resource.  Some people who have written great lenses have had great success.
