Recommended CDs

Here are some CD's I would recommend

  1. 40 oz to Freedom - Sublime

Sublimes first full length album is considered by many to be their best. Recorded for just US$2,000, 40 oz is a collection of pacey, soulful and chilled reggae, ska, rock, funk and hip hop inspired tracks. Several tracks medley together, and there is a great 'thanx' track at the end where Bradley lets you know who helped with their record.

  2. Legend - Bob Marley

Legend is a collection of Bob Marley tracks from many of his albums. The collection is well chosen, with tracks from early and late albums. If you only own one Bob Marley album it should be Legend.

  3. Graceland - Paul Simon

A beautiful and unique album that has one of the best fusions of musical types. Eastern African rhythms and styles mixed with Paul Simons western song writing. The musicianship is first rate, the song writing is Paul Simon at his solo best. The title track Graceland, Diamonds on the soles of her shoes, and You can call me Al are the highlights. The album features musicians from South Africa, and Ladysmith Back Mambaza. At Graceland's release there was some talk of Paul Simon exploiting the African musicians. This is not the case though, with the musicians disputing this themselves. Like most musicians they are happy for the exposure, work and royalties. The musicians, their families, and societies benefited from the project. Check out the Classic Albums making of Graceland, if you can. Its a brilliant insight into this unique album.

  4. Maverick a Strike - Finlay Quaye

Maverick a Strike is an excellent collection of reggae influenced tracks. Almost all are written by Finley. The vibe of the CD is chilled, warm and relaxing. The recording quality is excellent, with rich sounds and instruments. There is an excellent cover of Bob Marleys 'Sun is Shining' recorded before Fatboys Slims dance version. Finley has made a couple of albums since, but they don't match up to this one.
